Senior Accountant

On behalf of our Client, an independent social enterprise that provides analysis, local insight, and research to support international development projects and programs, we are looking for a Senior Accountant to be based at their offices in Limassol, Cyprus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads and/or assists the Accounting Manager in all aspects of accounting including month-end closing process (running depreciation, management of all Payroll including recording of international payroll in SAP and updating of national staff’s severance provision), quarterly cash flow projections as assigned, and annual financial management accounts/statements for the Managing Director 
  • Supports or oversees (as needed) the month-end closing process of Balance sheet management, including clearing prepaid and Accrual items, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, Staff Advance, and Inter-Company accounts (calculate prorated shared costs and assign cost centers where applicable)
  • Under the guidance and instruction of the Accounting Manager, reviews all vouchers including payments, receipts, and liquidation transactions, and journal vouchers prepared by the Bookkeeping Clerk
  • Ensures tax/VAT compliance with local law in the country of Cyprus
  • Oversees internal and external audits (financial and sales/use tax), including preparation of audit schedules and support in collaboration with the Accounting Manager
  • Manages the team, reviews work for timeliness and accuracy, assesses performance annually, and identifies opportunities for professional learning and general quality improvement
  • Oversees preparation of invoices and payment requests to clients (gather and validate supporting documentation when necessary)
  • Acts as a focal point for Bank Account Managers; drafts and delivers compliance and due-diligence paperwork as requested
  • Reviews expense reports and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness before payment
  • Be responsible for consultants with respect to payments; understands specific consultant concerns and adjusts payment modality as necessary
  • Calculates payroll for Cyprus-based staff; oversees and reviews consultant invoices and timesheets for accuracy
  • Prepares budget vs. actual and cashflow reports
  • Acts as an authorized bank signatory and main point with the Managing Director; initiates monthly payroll payments to staff and consultants

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting 
  • Minimum 6 years of accounting experience 
  • CPA/ACCA will be considered an advantage 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and SAP is required
  • Experience performing and reviewing balance sheet account reconciliations 
  • Process improvement mindset leveraging information systems
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, with outstanding attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with and support the rest of the team
  • Fluent in the English language, both verbal and written
