Purchasing Officer

On behalf of our client, a ship management company, we are looking for a Purchasing Officer, to be based at their offices in Limassol, Cyprus.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Procures marine stores, spare parts, lubricants, consumables, and technical services for assigned vessels.
  • Reviews vessel requisitions and obtains competitive quotations from approved suppliers worldwide.
  • Negotiates prices, delivery schedules, and commercial terms to achieve cost-effective purchasing solutions.
  • Prepares and issues Purchase Orders in accordance with company procedures and budget requirements.
  • Monitors and expedites orders to ensure timely delivery to vessels and offices.
  • Coordinates logistics and delivery arrangements with suppliers, agents, freight forwarders, and vessels.
  • Maintains close communication with Masters, Chief Engineers, Superintendents, and Operations personnel regarding procurement requirements.
  • Liaises effectively with Technical, Operations, Accounts, and Crewing Departments.
  • Follows up on outstanding orders, delivery delays, shortages, and invoice discrepancies.
  • Maintains accurate procurement records and updates purchasing systems and databases.
  • Evaluates supplier performance and contributes to the development of a reliable supplier network.
  • Supports cost-control initiatives while ensuring quality and operational requirements are met.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Shipping, Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in maritime purchasing, preferably within a ship management company.
  • Previous experience with tanker, LPG, bulk carrier, container, or passenger vessel fleets will consider as advantage.
  • Familiarity with marine procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Sound knowledge of marine procurement processes, vessel spare parts, stores, lubricants, and technical supplies.
  • Experience dealing with international suppliers, ship chandlers, service providers, and logistics companies.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage procurement activities for multiple vessels simultaneously
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
